Corrupt Me by: Jillian Quinn (eARC review)

This is an ARC review, I was given this digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

Summary:Β

Izzie Rinaldi has everything going for her. All she has to do is make it through her senior year of college, and then she’ll be off to law school, one step closer to assuming her position at the head of her family’s empire. After a chance encounter with the campus bad boy, Izzie can’t get him out of her head.

Luca Marchese, the smooth-talking son of the most notorious man in Philadelphia, is used to getting what he wants. He hasn’t forgotten the girl he knew as a child, and now that he has Izzie’s attention, Luca will stop at nothing to have her.

Luca’s defiance of the law turns Izzie on more than she cares to admit. She wants Luca to corrupt her in every way possible, despite his reputation as the king of one-night stands. Their attraction is undeniable, but their desire for one another isn’t enough for Izzie to overlook visits from federal agents and the potential ruin of her family.

Linked to Luca and a criminal underworld, Izzie discovers she’s more like him than she thought. But a future with Luca could mean swapping her diamond bracelets for a pair of handcuffs.

The Review:

This is a book in which I would like to say is not a genre that a specifically go for in terms of reading which is New Adult fiction. I decided to give it a read mainly because it was written by one of my blogger friends Jillian @RantandRaveBooks, and also the premise intrigued me, mainly because I am a fan of anything mob related from the Sopranos to Goodfellas.

Lets first discuss the characters, Izzie is great. She is a down to earth and doesn’t put up with anything, even her family drama. Luca is what I like to call a “bad boy” done right. Let me explain, while Luca is a mob prince, he actually has development and is not just a “bad boy” that the female lead falls in the love with. I also like his relationship with his frat brothers and didn’t fall under the stereotypical frat bros behavior.

I also loved some of the supporting characters, like Silvia, Izzie’s best friend and Luca’s mom. They actually added a lot to the story and weren’t just throw away characters.

The romance was also actually well done, while some of the the scenes were very descriptive, like I said it was my first New Adult fiction book, I actually liked some of it. Also the relationship between Luca and Izzie was also well developed. I like that Izzie wasn’t willing to put up with any of Luca’s shit, which is sort of a refresher compared to other relationships. It also wasn’t as sexual and it actually takes them a while to have sex. They also really care about each other

The plot mostly dealt with Luca and Izzie’s families and their rivalry. My only gripe with it is that I wanted to see more of the conflict, while it does get mentioned throughout the book, I just wanted to see it dive more deeper into the conflict. Also there was this plot about an FBI agent trying to use Izzie to take down Luca. I also wish it there was more to the plot, and also the issue of the snitch, which was introduced and than revealed, a little to quickly and I would have liked to have seen more of the plot line develop more.

I also think that this book is also a stand alone, which is a bummer because want to see where the characters go after the epilogue.

In the end, I was actually pleasantly surprised on how much I really liked this book, it was the first book I read in this genre, and I may read more. It was also a good debut for author Jillian Quiin, and I want to see more of her work.

Grade: 4/5

  1. I agree with all your points! The brilliant characters, main and second, make the story so good. It’s true that we don’t get to know what the conflict was about… Maybe Jill will answer that in a post or a book! :p

    • I’m glad you guys loved the characters. They’re like family to me at this point. πŸ™‚ You’ll see the end of this book fully expanded in Mario’s book, Totally Corrupt. The synopsis and covers for the next two novels are on my website at jillianquinnbooks.com

  2. I love your review, Darnell! πŸ™‚ Thanks so much for reading and reviewing the book. Good news! This book is a standalone novel that is also part of the Philly Corruption series. You’ll see more of what happened at the end of this book in the second book through Mario, Luca’s brother. The third book will be about Anthony. I’m planning to release Mario’s book in the summer, so you won’t have to wait to long. πŸ™‚

  4. That’s pretty good! I would be too nervous to review Jillian’s book! I’m not a romance reader, and just like you this would be new to me. I def don’t want to rate her book low bc it’s not my thing, you know? So I skipped it but I’m championing her book! And it sounds like it’s a good read! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
