Hype or Like Friday: All’s Fair in War and Magic: Fantastical Magics

Happy Friday everyone,

Here is another Hype or Like Friday, the theme for June is All’s Fair in War and Magic

And the Book of the Month is:

Hype or Like Friday is a meme created by Jillian, Larkin, and Britt to discuss about hyped books and see if they’re hyped up or not. There would be book of the month that you can read, and the post your review for it on the end of the month, then rate it whether it’s a hype it or like it.

June 9th – Fantastical Magics… What are some of your favorite magical systems?

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Yeah, I know this is an obvious choice, but come on who can’t love the world of Harry Potter. I would have loved to attend Hogwarts, play Quidditch, and become an Auror.

The Heir Chronicles

While this is a very underrated series, it does have a good magical system , in which each child is born with a wizard stone or a warrior stone in their heart.

A Darker Shade of Magic

The idea of multiple Londons is amazing. Also with each different London has a different magical system in that London.

Mistborn

The world of Mistborn is amazing. It is basically so good. I also love how magic is infused into the political system. I think I may reread the series again.

Those are my favorite magical systems. What are your magical systems? Let me know in the comments below.

Top 5 Wednesday: Favorite Minor Characters

Happy Wednesday everyone, and here is another Top 5 Wednesday, and the topic is,

May 24th: Favorite Minor Characters
–Minor characters are less than a sidekick or a side character (but not in our hearts!) Everyone will have a different definition of what makes a minor vs a side character but just as an example, I’d consider Ron and Hermione side characters, while Lavender Brown, Oliver Wood, and Dean Thomas are minor characters. Results may vary so don’t get tooooo caught up in it 🙂

Top 5 Wednesday is a group in Goodreads and was formerly created by Lainey at gingerreadslainey and is now done by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes. It is open to everyone.

I always do like minor characters, mainly because they always add to the ensemble and make the book better.

Detective Boney from Gone Girl

She’s the lead detective in the case of Amy Dunne, and she always tended to give Nick the benefit of the doubt. Even after Amy is found she still knew something was up in Amy’s story.

Iko from the Lunar Chronicles

She is Cinder’s android, and she is hilarious, while you were sad that she was decommissioned she still stayed around in Throne’s ship and was still hilarious.

Olenna Tyrell from A Song of Ice and Fire

She maybe old, but she still a lot to say. I liked her mainly because she served as support to Sansa when she was a King’s Landing. I also love how her doesn’t put up with any of Queen Cersei’s shit either.

Finnick Odair from The Hunger Games

One of the most popular victors from The Hunger Games, he does have a cocky attitude. But underneath the cockiness is his love for Mags; his mentor and his girlfriend Annie.

Oliver Wood from Harry Potter

Harry’s first Quidditch captain. He cared about his team and wanted to win the cup. Even if some of his methods were questionable like waking his team up early in the morning for practice he was a very good captain.

Those are my favorite minor character. What are your favorite minor characters? Let me know in the comments below.

Hype or Like Friday: Dreaming I was There Now

Happy Friday all, and welcome to another Hype or Like Friday.

The Book of the Month is: Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

Hype or Like Friday is a meme created by Jillian, Larkin, and Britt to discuss about hyped books and see if they’re hyped up or not. There would be book of the month that you can read, and the post your review for it on the end of the month, then rate it whether it’s a hype it or like it.
May 5th – Dreaming I Was There Now… Which fantasy worlds are your favorite and do you catch yourself wishing you were there?

Wizarding World of Harry Potter

I know, let me get this one out of way. But ever since I was eleven years old, I wanted to attend Hogwarts and learn magical spells.

The land of OZ

Okay, maybe it’s because I have been listening to the Wicked soundtrack, but OZ has always intrigues me. Also because my girlfriend is starting to read the book, Wicked I also became interested in the land of OZ. I just hope I won’t run into any witches, or flying monkeys.

Skyrim

I know its a video game, but it is a fantasy setting so I am putting it on the list. As someone who puts in hours into playing the game, it is just a world that you would love to get engrossed in and be a part of.

Westeros

Of course, as a Game of Thrones fan, why not put Westeros as a place to live in. While yes, there is a risk you could get killed, but all you have to do is to play your cards right and if that means betraying people than so be it.

Those are my favorite fantasy setting. Which fantasy worlds are your favorite? Let me know in the comments below.

Top 5 Wednesday: Books that would make great video games

Happy Wednesday everyone, and here is another Top 5 Wednesday and the topic is,

April 12th: Books That Would Make Good Video Games
–Since I’ve been in video game hell (in a good way) for the past year, this topic is timely. Remember, not all video games are action games! The Sims has proven that 🙂

Top 5 Wednesday is a group in Goodreads and was formerly created by Lainey at gingerreadslainey and is now done by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes. It is open to everyone.

As a gamer, of course I would love the topic and it mixes my two loves books and video games.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Okay, I know there have been video games made of the Harry Potter movies, but those games are terrible. My idea would be an RPG set in Hogwarts in which you are a student, get sorted into a house and take classes. I also want to see it as an open-world sort of like Skyrim.

Illuminae series

As a fan of the Mass Effect trilogy, I think a good space based game could work with the Illuminae setting. I could have choices that could effect the way you play the game. It could also have a few good RPG elements.

Six of Crows duology

This will most likely be one of the Tell-Tale Games, or something along the line of Until Dawn in which it is sort of like a choose your own adventure game. You could as all six of characters and the game would tailor to each character.

Percy Jackson series

Basically I want this to be like God of War, with powers. If you played God of War you would know what I am talking about. It would also be fun to play through the Percy Jackson series.

Legend trilogy

This would be like Uncharted meets Mass Effect. Full of platforming, RPG elements. You play as both June and Day, and it would switch between the characters, which would play differently.

Those are the books that would make great video games. What books do you think would make great games? Let me know in the comments below.

Gilmore Girls Book Tag

With the upcoming revival coming back and also the fact that the UP channel is playing an every Gilmore Girls ever marathon, why not do a tag of one of my favorite shows Gilmore Girls. And yes I am a Gilmore Guy. I wasn’t tagged by anyone, but I thought it would be fun to do. This tag was created by punksandpaperbooks.

Lorelai-A character with a witty or sarcastic sense of humor

Tyrion Lanniseter from A Song of Ice and Fire. As a former hand to King Joffrey, we always knew what to say in the toughest of times, and he always had a good wit about him.

Rory – Your favorite classic

Matilda by Roald Dahl. It was one of the first chapter books I read, and it is of course my favorite classic because I can relate a lot to the character of Matilda and her love for reading.

Luke – A book you secretly love, but are afraid to admit.

I pick Gossip Girl, while most would think of the show, and I know it would be a cliche for me to say this but, the book is better. I was in high school/college when the book came out, and it would be weird as a guy to say that I openly love Gossip Girl, but I do.

Lane – A musical character

I pick August from This Savage Song. He carries around his guitar not just because he loves music but it is also his weapon and how he uses his powers.

Dean- Your first book love (character or book you first loved!)

Hermione Granger, what can I say. I like my ladies smart and bookish.

Sooki – A book you’ve devoured

Champion by Marie Lu, it took an entire bus ride from Boston to Washington DC to read the book from start to finished and I loved it.

Jess- A book you love, that gets the most hate.

Despite what people may think of the story, I actually like the series a lot. I love the characters and how they interacted with each other. The movies, were pretty bad and didn’t follow the book.

Miss Patty – A book that was ruined by the hype

I was told that this was a Harry Potter meets Buffy, and when I finished the book I just felt a very “meh” feeling towards it. But this was a book I felt was way over hyped. I am currently reading Lady Midnight and I like what I am reading so far.

Emily Gilmore – expensive book

While the other Song of Ice and Fire books I bought were paperback, this is the only hard cover and boy it was very expensive compared to the other books.

Paris – An uptight character

Radu, from And I Darken, he was very whiny in the book and very uptight, hopefully like Paris he loosens up in future books.

That is my Gilmore Girls Book Tag. Can’t wait for Gilmore Girls to come out on Friday, in which I will be binge watching.

If you are reading this consider yourself tagged.

Hype or Like Friday: Nov. 4th-Books I’m Thankful For.

Happy Friday everyone,

The theme for November’s Hype or Like Friday is about what we’re thankful for and the book of the month is Three Dark Crowns.

I will hopefully do my best and will try to actually read this book because it was on my TBR.

Hype or Like Friday is a meme created by Jillian, Larkin, and Britt to discuss about hyped books and see if they’re hyped up or not. There would be book of the month that you can read, and the post your review for it on the end of the month, then rate it whether it’s a hype it or like it.

Friday, November 4th- Books I’m Thankful For (Think- books you can’t live without)

The Books of Roald Dahl

It began in elementary school and it was one of the first chapter books I read, so I felt a little grown up while reading it. They are also books I will love to revisit.

The Hunger Games trilogy

One of my first first ventures in YA, and I started reading it after I saw the trailer for the first Hunger Games movie, and I kept reading the rest of the series and loved it. It also got me back into reading again.

A Song of Ice and Fire series

A great fantasy series. Okay so I started reading after the show came out, but I still loved the series and all the twists and turns it took. Even though George R.R. Martin has still not finished the show does a great job at keeping up with his vision.

The Lunar Chronicles

Another great series that does a great job at mixing the science fiction genre with the fairy tale genre. I loved all the twists to each of the fairy tales and I also loved every character.

The Harry Potter series

Of course, I have to include this series, its the one that started it all and what can I say that hasn’t already been said. Its an amazing series that I am happy to revisit. It got me into online fandom, and it also made me love reading.

Those are the books I am thankful for. What books are you thankful for? Let me know in the comments below

Stationary Book Tag

Thank you to Cassiopeia’s Moon for the Tag!

This Tag was created by Sam @ RiverMoose-Reads

It seemed like a very interesting tag so enjoy.

Pencils- Favorite Children’s Book

Growing up reading, these books were my favorite. Especially Matilda, BFG and James and the Giant Peach. These books were a part of my childhood.

Pens-A Basic Staple for any reader

Of course, Harry Potter is an obvious choice for any reader. It was one of the first big series I think most of us have read and never stopped. I still re-read to this day.

Notebooks-Books you own multiple copies of.

Again, Harry Potter. My paperbacks for Sorcerers Stone and Chamber of Secrets were ripped, so I bought new copies. I hope that counts.

Markers-Books with beautiful covers

Don’t those covers look amazing.

Glue: Two Characters that work together even if they aren’t together.

Day and June worked well together all throughout the series, even when during Prodigy and Champion they spent some time apart.

Scissors: What book would you like to destroy?

I can’t!!!!!! Yes I read the first book to see what the hype was a about, finished it and kept wondering why. It was poorly written, the characters are awful and lines are cringe-worthy.

Art kit: What completed series you own?

The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

The Harry Potter series by JK Rowling

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

The Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu

The Maze Runner Trilogy by James Dashner

The Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth

The Darkest Minds Trilogy by Alexandra Bracken

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by JR Tolkien

Six of Crows Duolgy by Leigh Bardugo
