Gilmore Girls Book Tag

With the upcoming revival coming back and also the fact that the UP channel is playing an every Gilmore Girls ever marathon, why not do a tag of one of my favorite shows Gilmore Girls. And yes I am a Gilmore Guy. I wasn’t tagged by anyone, but I thought it would be fun to do. This tag was created by punksandpaperbooks.

Lorelai-A character with a witty or sarcastic sense of humor

Tyrion Lanniseter from A Song of Ice and Fire. As a former hand to King Joffrey, we always knew what to say in the toughest of times, and he always had a good wit about him.

Rory – Your favorite classic

Matilda by Roald Dahl. It was one of the first chapter books I read, and it is of course my favorite classic because I can relate a lot to the character of Matilda and her love for reading.

Luke – A book you secretly love, but are afraid to admit.

I pick Gossip Girl, while most would think of the show, and I know it would be a cliche for me to say this but, the book is better. I was in high school/college when the book came out, and it would be weird as a guy to say that I openly love Gossip Girl, but I do.

Lane – A musical character

I pick August from This Savage Song. He carries around his guitar not just because he loves music but it is also his weapon and how he uses his powers.

Dean- Your first book love (character or book you first loved!)

Hermione Granger, what can I say. I like my ladies smart and bookish.

Sooki – A book you’ve devoured

Champion by Marie Lu, it took an entire bus ride from Boston to Washington DC to read the book from start to finished and I loved it.

Jess- A book you love, that gets the most hate.

Despite what people may think of the story, I actually like the series a lot. I love the characters and how they interacted with each other. The movies, were pretty bad and didn’t follow the book.

Miss Patty – A book that was ruined by the hype

I was told that this was a Harry Potter meets Buffy, and when I finished the book I just felt a very “meh” feeling towards it. But this was a book I felt was way over hyped. I am currently reading Lady Midnight and I like what I am reading so far.

Emily Gilmore – expensive book

While the other Song of Ice and Fire books I bought were paperback, this is the only hard cover and boy it was very expensive compared to the other books.

Paris – An uptight character

Radu, from And I Darken, he was very whiny in the book and very uptight, hopefully like Paris he loosens up in future books.

That is my Gilmore Girls Book Tag. Can’t wait for Gilmore Girls to come out on Friday, in which I will be binge watching.

If you are reading this consider yourself tagged.

October Wrap up/November TBR

Hello everyone,

We are currently in the month of November, and I was suppose to do this a few days ago, but I got busy. It was still a pretty good reading month despite how busy I was, but I still read what I needed to read. So lets recap.

What I Read:

Queen of Shadows by: Sarah J Maas

While everyone else was reading Empire of Storms, I was a little behind and was reading Queen of Shadows. Here is my review. I gave it 4/5.

Crooked Kingdom by: Leigh Bardugo

One of my most anticipated reads. After reading the great Six of Crows and loving it, I had to finish the series. Here is my review. I gave it 5/5

And I Darken by: Kiersten White

It was a nice book, the cover looks amazing. I actually liked the book more than I thought I would. Here is my review. I gave it 4/5

The Midnight Star by: Marie Lu

The conclusion of one my favorite series by one of my favorite authors. It was a good conclusion, and I enjoyed the series. Here is my review. I gave it 3.8/5

Vicious by VE Schwab

Another great book by the fabulous VE Schwab, and it was amazing. A very good read, that blurs the lines between good and bad. Here is my review. I gave it 4.7/5

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

This was a book, that I kept saying, why did it take me long to read this. I loved how unconventional the book was. Mainly told through chats, and security and I loved every page of it. Here is my review. I gave it 5/5

The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson

This was a nice short read. I enjoyed reading it and I plan to read the rest of the series. Here is my review. I gave it 3/5

Across the Universe by Beth Revis

Another book on my TBR list that I finally read, and I really liked it. Here is my review. I gave it 3.5/5

Stationary Book Tag

Thank you to Cassiopeia’s Moon for the Tag!

This Tag was created by Sam @ RiverMoose-Reads

It seemed like a very interesting tag so enjoy.

Pencils- Favorite Children’s Book

Growing up reading, these books were my favorite. Especially Matilda, BFG and James and the Giant Peach. These books were a part of my childhood.

Pens-A Basic Staple for any reader

Of course, Harry Potter is an obvious choice for any reader. It was one of the first big series I think most of us have read and never stopped. I still re-read to this day.

Notebooks-Books you own multiple copies of.

Again, Harry Potter. My paperbacks for Sorcerers Stone and Chamber of Secrets were ripped, so I bought new copies. I hope that counts.

Markers-Books with beautiful covers

Don’t those covers look amazing.

Glue: Two Characters that work together even if they aren’t together.

Day and June worked well together all throughout the series, even when during Prodigy and Champion they spent some time apart.

Scissors: What book would you like to destroy?

I can’t!!!!!! Yes I read the first book to see what the hype was a about, finished it and kept wondering why. It was poorly written, the characters are awful and lines are cringe-worthy.

Art kit: What completed series you own?

The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

The Harry Potter series by JK Rowling

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

The Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu

The Maze Runner Trilogy by James Dashner

The Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth

The Darkest Minds Trilogy by Alexandra Bracken

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by JR Tolkien

Six of Crows Duolgy by Leigh Bardugo

WWW Wednesday: Oct 12th 2016

This is something I always wanted to do this is Waiting on Wednesday.

Welcome to WWW Wednesday which is currently being hosted by Sam @ Taking On A World of Words. It’s really just a place to do little update on what all you’ve been reading lately. Anyone is welcome to join, just leave a link to your post in the comments and be sure to give the appropriate credit to Sam.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

I am reading Queen of the Tearling by: Erika Johnson

This was a book on my TBR list for a while, and I finally picked it up last week and I think it is pretty good so far.

A Darker Shade of Magic by: V.E. Schwab

Another book on my TBR list, I recently read This Savage Song and loved it so I decided to give her other books a shot.

What did you most recently finish?

You can find the review here. I liked this book, I gave it 4/5. It was a sort of retelling of the Ottoman empire.Sort of like a Game of Thrones-lite, but still enjoyable.

What do you think you will read next?

Yes! It came out yesterday, will buy on Friday. I love the series so far. I like how it is basically the making of a villain. I liked Marie Lu’s Legend trilogy and hopefully this trilogy will another favorite.

That is my WWW list. What books are you currently reading? What did you finish? Excited about the Midnight Star? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Wednesday!

And I Darken by: Kiersten White

Summary:

No one expects a princess to be brutal. And Lada Dragwlya likes it that way. Ever since she and her gentle younger brother, Radu, were wrenched from their homeland of Wallachia and abandoned by their father to be raised in the Ottoman courts, Lada has known that being ruthless is the key to survival. She and Radu are doomed to act as pawns in a vicious game, an unseen sword hovering over their every move. For the lineage that makes them special also makes them targets.

Lada despises the Ottomans and bides her time, planning her vengeance for the day when she can return to Wallachia and claim her birthright. Radu longs only for a place where he feels safe. And when they meet Mehmed, the defiant and lonely son of the sultan, Radu feels that he’s made a true friend—and Lada wonders if she’s finally found someone worthy of her passion.

But Mehmed is heir to the very empire that Lada has sworn to fight against—and that Radu now considers home. Together, Lada, Radu, and Mehmed form a toxic triangle that strains the bonds of love and loyalty to the breaking point.

The Review:

This was a book that was on my TBR list during the summer and I managed to finally read it. Let me start by saying that the premise already intrigued me mainly because I do like historical fiction or alternative history, and deals with the Ottoman empire which of course I have had a very vast interest in.

The setting is already good, Kiersten White does a good job at taking us back in the 15th century and the world building was sort of short and to the point. It sorta reminded me of the show Reign, which many calls the CWs answer to Game of Thrones.

Lada is one of my favorites. She is very snarky, independent and can hold her own in a fight. She remained me a lot of Arya Stark and how she is willing to dismiss her gender roles and wants to help in the fight.

Radu, in the beginning of the book, I felt he was way to whiny and complainy. It kinda turned me off with the character a bit. Towards the middle he began to mellow out a bit, mainly due to his relationship with Mehmed. I like that he was a a character who was struggling with his sexuality, especially given the time period, it made his character a bit more interesting and not the whiner that I say in the beginning of the book. Hopefully we see more of that in future books.

Mehmed, at first felt more like a plot device or an object of a love triangle between Lada and Radu, but he did grow on me as the book went on. You can tell that he wants to be sultan, but has to deal with outside forces trying to take that away from him. His mother, I felt was almost Cersei-lite. But there was times in the book that she practically went full Cersei, in trying to teach him how to play the game.

The plot was also very interesting, while you don’t get to see a lot of the war aspect of the book(it is mostly mentioned, but never really seen) I did however like the political intrigue the book had. You see a lot of back handed deals, marriages for political gain and even some betrayals. I sort of proved that you don’t need a lot of action in order to keep the story interesting.

Some of the problems I had with the book, is how the book would jump around, instead of moving in a more cohesive pace. You would see months go by, without much of warning and us readers would have to play catch up with what’s going on.

In the end, As I Darken is a very solid first book, of what could be an amazing series. It has enough political intrigue to keep you interested, and I want to see what happens to the characters.

Grade: 4/5

All the Series EVER (Read, Reading, To Read) Tag

Happy Sunday everyone,

It has been a long time since I did a tag post and I saw this on Donna at  Cholatenwaffles, and thought I should give it a go. This tag was created by Fadwa at Word Wonders.

I like that this tag will tackle book series that I have finished or will be finishing and also go over my favorites.

Series that I have finished.

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

Overall rating: 5/5

One of my favorites. Love this series so much. A great mix of fairy tale retelling with science fiction.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Overall rating: 4/5

One of my favorite trilogies, with Katniss being one of my favorite characters. I love the world it is set in, and is one of my favorite dystopians.

Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu

Overall rating: 4/5

Another great dystopian series. Love both characters of Day and June. While I felt the ending was off it was still an amazing series.

Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth

Overall rating: 3/5

While I really loved the first book, and second book was pretty good as well, it was the third book that fell off, and I am not talking about the ending. It was a series I felt that was getting weaker.

The Maze Runner trilogy by James Dashner

Overall rating: 3.5/5

I actually really liked this series. I know it has its problems, but I loved the characters and how they interacted with one another.

The Darkest Minds trilogy by: Alexandra Bracken

Overall rating: 3/5

I thought this series was good but overrated. I liked the concept of kids with powers but I didn’t really feel that the powers connected with the story and I also felt that the powers were not clearly defined.

Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling

Overall rating: 5/5

I know, I know. But I love this series so much. What more than I can say.

Series I am currently reading:

The Young Elites trilogy by: Marie Lu

I loved her Legend trilogy and so far this series is amazing. Can’t wait for the last series to see how it ends.

Red Rising Trilogy by Pierce Brown

I recently finished the first book and loved it, and kicking myself into wondering how I didn’t read this series earlier.

An Ember in the Ashes series by Sabaa Tahir:

I loved both of these books. This is one of my new favorite series. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Throne of Glass/ A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas.

After seeing most of my blogger friends reading both of these series, I decided to start reading them, and I like them both. I am on Queen of Shadows right now and I really like this series so far.

Six of Crows duo-logy by: Leigh Bardugo

I wasn’t a fan of her Grisha trilogy, but Six of Crows blew me away and I loved it. Can’t wait for Crooked Kingdom.

Books to be read:

Labyrinth Lost by: Zoraida Cordova

The premise looks amazing and I like to see more diverse authors coming into YA

And I Darken by Kiersten White

I am usually not a cover person, but the cover looks great, and I have heard some good things about the book so far.

There is my tag list. Is there any other books or series I should read? Let me know in the comments below.

I also Tag:

Alex at Young at Heart

Megan at Book Slayer Reads

Aria at What Aria Loves

Jillian at Rant and Rave Books

And also YOU. If you are reading this consider yourself tagged.

Have a good one.
