Queen of Someday by:Sherry D. Ficklin

Summary (via Goodreads): ONE GIRL WILL BRING AN EMPIRE TO ITS KNEES…

Before she can become the greatest empress in history, fifteen-year-old Sophie will have to survive her social-climbing mother’s quest to put her on the throne of Russia—at any cost.

Imperial Court holds dangers like nothing Sophie has ever faced before. In the heart of St. Petersburg, surviving means navigating the political, romantic, and religious demands of the bitter Empress Elizabeth and her handsome, but sadistic nephew, Peter. Determined to save her impoverished family—and herself—Sophie vows to do whatever is necessary to thrive in her new surroundings. But an attempt on her life and an unexpected attraction threatens to derail her plans.

Alone in a new and dangerous world, learning who to trust and who to charm may mean the difference between becoming queen and being sent home in shame to marry her lecherous uncle. With traitors and murderers lurking around every corner, her very life hangs in the balance. Betrothed to one man but falling in love with another, Sophie will need to decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice in order to become the empress she is destined to be.

In a battle for the soul of a nation, will love or destiny reign supreme?

My Thoughts: I got this book for free from my nook, and I usually read free books if I am low on cash or during the waiting period in between book series and I decided to download this book because the summary kinda peaked my interest. I liked the setting of Russia or Prussia, since I am a history buff of course this would interest me. I also liked the political intrigue that the book had and not knowing who to trust.

I like Sophie as a main character and she had a character in the beginning of the book. However my problem with this book is the uninteresting love square or romances that are non-developed. I felt Sophie was brought down by the love scenes and I would have rather been had her be more a part of the political story line rather than start off as a great character than reduced to girl who all the other boys have to fight over.

Another problem is the love “square” that happens. Sophie is suppose to marry Peter, but is in love with Alexander, than falls in love with Sergei; and my main problem with this is that the males are poorly developed and uninteresting.

It was a free book so I didn’t feel too bad for reading it but I don’t think I will continue the series. If you like it fine but it wasn’t for me

Grade: 2.2/5
