From bestselling writer Brian K. Vaughan, Saga is the sweeping tale of one young family fighting to find their place in the worlds. Fantasy and science fiction are wed like never before in this sexy, subversive drama for adults.
My Thoughts: Wow! That was my feeling about reading this graphic novel. It is something that I have never read before and it was amazing. This tells the story of two people Marko and Alana who fall in love but are from opposite sides of a galactic war. Basically Romeo and Juliet in space. But the romance was so well done. Even though they are already married by the start of the novel, the romance really develops over time in regards to protecting their daughter, Hazel.
Also in Vol. 1, there is a lot of world building which is usual for any sci fi graphic novel. But it also sets up the plot and the other characters such as, the Will; the bounty hunter hired to capture them and IV a royal member, and develop their characters and arcs as well.
Also, the world looks amazing and Fiona Staple, the lead illustrator gives us a feel of how the world looks and feels, and designs of the many creatures and characters are very distinct and unique and is something that I have never seen before in any graphic novel.
The graphic novel is also very graphic, in terms of violence and sexual imagery, which isn’t to distracting. So if its not for you it is understandable.
Vol. 1 was an amazing book, that could easily set up to something epic.
